A tetraploid conversion of the original Stella de'Oro which is a diploid. Originally created as a hybridizing variety to bring added qualities to miniature flowered tetraploid seedlings but is a useful addition as a garden Daylily as well, as it has better flower texture than the original 'Stella' Makes a very fulsome clump but still compact. Looks sensational alternately grouped with Lavender 'Munstead' !
Plant 15" apart or a little closer in groups of 3 or more. As a patio plant use a 4 litre capacity container.

Season of flowering -
Early usually starts mid-late June.
Mid Season is late June with main flowering through July.
Late season is late July and into August.
Please note flowering period can be affected by positioning and seasonality factors. By selecting varieties with different flowering periods you will get the longest period of bloom.

Evergreen varieties may maintain all foliage over the winter. The foliage state can be influenced by the severity or otherwise of the winter period.
It is often said that dormant varieties are the absolute hardiest but all offered varieties have been extensively trialled here and all are hardy.
Ploidy - Tetraploid
Ploidy - In layman's terms ploidy is the number of chromosomes a variety has. Older varieties are nearly all diploids but modern day breeding techniques resulted in improved tetraploid varieties with three chromosomes. It is difficult to distinguish between them in general plant appearance, although diploids do have ever so slightly narrower foliage. As far as the blooms are concerned tetraploids have flowers with thicker, heavier substance and fuller form and are the very pinnacle of perfection and grandeur. Diploids are not so heavily textured and can be more graceful in appearance. They also tend to open earlier in the day even when it is colder. Diploids will usually grow and increase more quickly.

Hortensia
Despite winning the Stout Medal back in 1972, not a superstar in Daylily terms but I really like this older clear yellow with it's nice carefree form, fragrance and clarity of colour. One I will always keep and a good landscaper. Plant 20" apart or a little close if in groups of 3 or more, or grow in 5 litre capacity containers.

Stella de 'Oro
Probably the most famous and oft-planted globally of any Daylily, Stella has captivated the world over. A multi-award winner shortly after it's release as it raised the standard for re-blooming Daylilies producing successive flushes of butter yellow flowers at intervals through the season together with obligingly compact habit. Still of great value whether on the patio in pots or forefront of the border, rockery, edging etc. Although compact it does increase quickly so is best divided every three years or so to maintain it's perpetual blooming habit. Has given rise to many variations such as Purple D'oro, Mini Stella and Stella Tet. Plant 15-18" apart or grow in 4 litre capacity containers.
