As old as the hills and still going strong, the double form of the old Tawny Daylily. Can thrive in inhospitable places still providing an abundant show of loosely double orange flowers with a crested red eye. Increases readily, ideal for naturalising and still has value.

It is often said that dormant varieties are the absolute hardiest but all offered varieties have been extensively trialled here and all are hardy.
Ploidy - Diploid
Ploidy - In layman's terms ploidy is the number of chromosomes a variety has. Older varieties are nearly all diploids but modern day breeding techniques resulted in improved tetraploid varieties with three chromosomes. It is difficult to distinguish between them in general plant appearance, although diploids do have ever so slightly narrower foliage. As far as the blooms are concerned tetraploids have flowers with thicker, heavier substance and fuller form and are the very pinnacle of perfection and grandeur. Diploids are not so heavily textured and can be more graceful in appearance. They also tend to open earlier in the day even when it is colder. Diploids will usually grow and increase more quickly.

Although long since superseded in the colour range this is one of the all-time most famous and oft-panted of all varieties and remains a worthwhile border and landscaping Daylily producing a brief but very floriferous show together with cast-iron dependability making it useful also for more "difficult" areas. The graceful lily-form flowers are deep pink and produced en-masse on an established clump. Clumps quickly; numerous planting associations are possible with Pink Damask. My favourite is to team with the ruddy pink of Echinacea purpurea and Lavenders such as "Hidote" or the darker flowered "Munstead".

For fast effect in the garden this old timer takes some beating as it matures to clump size very quickly and is very floriferous with many stems of tiger eyed beauties showing well on taller scapes. Looks great with Crocosmia and Heleniums. A garden classic.

Middendorffii
Grows in the wild across Russia, Japan and Korea and is the species largely cultivated specifically in Asia for it’s edible buds and flowers which are used in stir fries and other Asian cuisine. The scented almost funnel shaped golden yellow flowers appear en-masse in July with further blooms sometimes in September. A very hardy and easily grown species with slender grassy foliage.
