Sure to give an eyecatching burst of highlight colour to any border and always one of the most prominent varieties here, this sherbet orange Daylily has a red eye and edge to each well formed bloom. Has won two awards from the American Daylily Society and often considered one of the best and most popular of the 'eyed' cultivars.
Handily one of the shorter growing of the large flowered Daylilies; will sometimes give later re-bloom.

It is often said that dormant varieties are the absolute hardiest but all offered varieties have been extensively trialled here and all are hardy.
Ploidy - Tetraploid
Ploidy - In layman's terms ploidy is the number of chromosomes a variety has. Older varieties are nearly all diploids but modern day breeding techniques resulted in improved tetraploid varieties with three chromosomes. It is difficult to distinguish between them in general plant appearance, although diploids do have ever so slightly narrower foliage. As far as the blooms are concerned tetraploids have flowers with thicker, heavier substance and fuller form and are the very pinnacle of perfection and grandeur. Diploids are not so heavily textured and can be more graceful in appearance. They also tend to open earlier in the day even when it is colder. Diploids will usually grow and increase more quickly.

Rags to Riches Daylily (Hemerocallis)
The blooms appear much larger owing to the heavy tactile substance and very fulsome form. I love the warm earthy colours of Rags to Riches, being a blend of tawny orange and gold together with a heavily ruffled gold edge and deep olive green throat. Works extraordinarily well in colour schemes involving warmer colours and a variety of great breeding which always performs well in the border.
